International Schools Premier League 2010 What is the purpose of International Schools Premier League (ISPL 2010)? ISPL is a tournament for the International Schools, of the International Schools and by the International Schools. It is a platform of sports talents exchange amongst the International Schools only. We are also happy to inform that we have got the Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Mumbai division Mr. N B Mote, (DSO) involved in this event and we shall be having him as one of the chief guest on the prize distribution day and also he has offered his recommendation and support to this event since it is promoting sports in International Schools. Gradually we intend to expand the tournament to other boards too in other differen formats with other schools interested in organizing the same. Who is organizing this event? Billabong High International School, Juhu run by Citizens Welfare Association is organizing the event along with professional support of Ecube Sports Gurukul Pvt. Ltd a company dedicated to training of sports and sports based events. What is so different about this event? Starting this year we are combining both the events Chess Carnival and Sports Olympiad into 1 event called International Schools Premier League ISPL 2010. We are creating lot of excitement for schools and we want each school to create a unique identity of their school for participating in this event. E.g. Billabong High International School Juhu would be BHISJ Warriors. We want the school children to create a unique name representing their school at this event. Finally it is an exclusive platform for IGCSE and IB schools which makes it a unique affair just like the ICSE and CBSE annual events. What are the activities? Chess Carnival - (for the Genius, Intelligent, Strong Minded) Cricket Crazee - (for the Tough, Strong, Go getters) Football Frenzee - (for the Rough, Hard, Passionate) Basketball Blazers - (for the Agile, Swift, Achievers) Tennis Masterz - (for the Elite, Accurate, Winners) Skating Speedsters - (for those who want to be faster then the fastest) Table Tennis Fest - ( for the love and spirit of the game) What is the advantage for the schools to send the students? - This is the exclusive event for International Schools and hence a perfect platform for providing match training to the school children
- Since the winners will be covered in newspapers it will provide the winning school an edge in terms of showing other schools the effort put in sports in their school. Even the winning schools names would be carried in the newspapers.
- The best talented students will get special training under experts which will be organized by Ecube Sports Gurukul Pvt. Ltd.
Why should a school send participants when they do not train students in that particular sport? A recent survey by Hindustan Times showed the schools active in sports with very few international schools in them. - By promoting more and more participation the school can increase their chances and ratings in various surveys leading to more publicity for their schools which is important for all schools today.
- By promoting talents and opportunity for sports not being trained in the school would reflect the schools intent and concern to promote sports which would go a long way in terms of the way the schools parents would perceive their schools interest in overall growth of a child.
- Sports per se are a great leveler. It is said that nothing teaches the way sports does. This is itself enough reason why schools should promote more and more students.
What about the morale of the kids when they loose? - The biggest challenge today’s schools face is expectation. Given that there are not many platforms for international schools,
- A platform of this kind is a very good opportunity for school teachers and trainers to imbibe the learning of loosing and the importance of it in life.
- Because only a person who knows how to loose can aspire to win.
- Schools should promote unlimited participation with no strings attached on the result.
- The morale of kids are lost when schools send children for participation from the result perspective rather then from the learning perspective which is an integrated part of sports.
How do you expect schools to cover curriculum missed by students during the tournament? Extra curricular is always a challenge in schools of metros of India since education includes academic study but not physical and mental fitness. A lot of schools go extra mile by creating special examination papers for such sports enthusiast of their school. We request schools to take a larger and wholesome approach to the participation and try best possible ways to promote participation and also covering lost curriculum which will go a long way in the overall education of the child. Each school can decide their possibilities and promote participation at the event in the best of their possibilities. Research has proved “Active motor skills develop the intellect”. Are there fees for participation? Every event has basic participation fees. We have verified fees with various inter school events and associations and devised fees accordingly for the same. We also have implemented suggestions from various schools and reduced fees across events from this year. Even an MSSA event sponsored by NIKE charges participation fees in their events. Hence we are charging token participation fees too for this event. We are working hard on sponsors to so that more and more facilities and prizes can be provided to the children and give our best to make the experience of every child wonderful. What is the benefit to the students after the event? - A platform to interact with other international school children
- Get opportunity to implement the skills learnt in schools.
- Get motivated to do better by seeing other students who are excelling in the competitions.
- Get great prizes as a motivator to perform better and harder.
- Get recognition in newspapers and get their morale boosted amongst other members of family and neighborhood. Research shows human being is hungry for recognition and it brings the best out of an individual. We want every sportsman to achieve their true potential through the spirit of sports.
- Feel the honor to play for their schools and achieve for the glory of sports and their school.
What is the long term plan for this event? We will gradually want to make this an All India event and get talents from this network spotted and picked up for National level training. We will offer all such schools support to organize their talented students and that is where will be the real victory of this platform.
